Keeping your Business “Portable”

Keeping your business "portable"

While recently speaking with a potential client she made the following statement: “Even though we may not physically work in the same office, we need operate as if we do.”

Ever since I started Network Design Consultants almost 12 years ago, my philosophy has been the same: use the best and most efficient technology and make it easily accessible to the end user. Because of that I am happy to say our customers were more prepared than most for the new “work from home” environment the world is now quickly rushing to adopt.

The last 5 years have brought some truly incredible technology tools, at an affordable price, that can keep your business running efficiently. This is not only critical during our current COVID-19 crisis, but necessary for the health and growth of any business.

Below are a few of the building blocks needed to keep your business “portable”.

Hosted File Sharing

Ever need to access that PowerPoint for a sales presentation, or that Excel spreadsheet for your CFO at a moment’s notice? Did you have to go through multiple steps, copy/paste, VPN’s, and a call to your IT Help Desk to get it? Cloud File Sharing is an efficient, safe, and SIMPLE way to have instant access to those important documents. It’s perfect for businesses of all shapes and sizes. You can find out more here:

Hosted VoIP

Many customers use a desk phone extensively. I personally prefer it over a cell phone so I don’t have to give out my personal number. Imagine being able to take your desk phone home, plug it into your network, and it works just like you are in the office. In addition, a mobile app can allow you to make and receive calls as if it is from your desk phone (including dialing an extension). Your customers will never know the difference…that is until they hear your children or pets in the background but hey, that is the new “norm” these days.

It is difficult enough for IT staff to keep your network and data secure while everyone works in the same office. Now imagine those employees working from home. That single network just became 10 or 20 or 50, etc. Are you safeguarding your critical data and communications? Fortunately, there are flexible solutions to help address this and we at Network Design Consultants approach this in 2 ways:

  1. Employee training
  2. Device monitoring and protection

Change is Happening

Many businesses are moving to adopt a hybrid work from home/in-office structure. Below is a good article talking about this shift:
